Winter

Is it possible that the views and weather are better in Winter than in summer?  Because there is absolutely nothing in front of you facing South  (just the ocean) if there is any sun out there (even if further out at sea) you can experience it.

Dawn breaks: the sun comes in low over the horizon filling the rooms with sunshine. That is why you get more winter sun because there are no buildings or hills to obstruct it.

There is a lot to do in Winter. Museums, shows, shopping etc  but something which is a best kept secret is that the outdoors and the sun can be enjoyed at the most unexpected times!

January  -  winter sun comes streaming in. The conservatory is South facing and has a solar roof ( keeping the heat in) , central heating and blinds (closed in the picture above).

Feedback from a guest sent to Rural Retreats on the Guest Comment form: Angela H--nt booking ref 228411 - rated property at top of ratings for all categories and remarks as follows: " My family and I had the most wonderful Xmas at Beach view Cottage. Everything about Beach View is so welcoming, generous and of a very high quality. The property is immaculate. The owner clearly wants guests to relax and enjoy their stay. The housekeepers do an amazing job. They are clearly wonderful guardian angels of such a beautiful place. Our family and friends who visited us at Beach View kept asking how we found such a lovely house. The house and view are outstanding. We were touched by the thought given to providing a seasonal feel (beautiful hamper, crackers, Xmas tree, t towels, fresh flowers and of course "Santa " in the den. Thank you so much.

WARNING: while looking forward to a holiday is often a large part of the enjoyment it is important not to have expectations set too high  to avoid disappointment. So while all the feedback above is true and greatly appreciated please note that enjoying your holiday and relaxing is in a large part down to ones frame of mind so we look forward to welcoming further appreciative guests!

Christmas  - amazing sunny day on Christmas day  - check weather reports for Southbourne - kids playing ball on the beach (with coat) and the polar bear in the background.(Actually our children but awhile ago!)

Glorious crisp weather with the sun coming in straight from the ocean - see pictures below.

Our lovely daughter on Christmasday

on the perfect sand on a sunny winter day

Bournemouth town centre - every year a wonderful Christmas market - bustling with people, stalls,  christmas tree and a good selection of mainstream shops.

If you prefer an historic Cathedral town turn right out of house and go to Christchurch.

Bird of Paradise in the Beach View conservatory - flowers in winter!

We've all enjoyed wonderful weather and have been appreciated comfy beds and crisp sheets. This holiday has been enhanced by beautiful views of a full moon over the sea. Boat trips to Swanage and Brownsea Island were most enjoyable; all in all a GREAT HOLIDAY - Super house!

ML, Coventry

We have had the family holiday of our lives! What a wonderful house in a perfect location. There is so much to do around here we wish we could have stayed longer! Our daughter enjoyed the Adventure Wonderland the most! Swanage, Corfe Castle, Sandbanks, Christchrch, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Pier..... fantastic. The house itself was so well equipped and we wanted for nothing, sitting in the garden alone was a highlight. Thanks again and we will definitely come back. CD, Essex,

A lovely, comfortable, well equipped house. The weather was bright but freezing, but we had a good time notwithstanding Mudeford (lunch at the Beach Cafe was lovely); the Russell Coates Museum and the Oceanarium. We liked Christchurch - lovely in winter and the Priory Church was fantastic. Lunch at Spinters Restaurant was good. KR, London
